We understand that this is most likely your first (and hopefully last) time preparing for your wedding. Here are some tips of things you can eagerly get started on!

Before blasting out to your 3,000 closest friends on Facebook, be sure to pick up the phone and call your relatives…yes! Even the ones you don’t really stay in touch with!

I am sure you don’t need to be convinced of the sentimental value of your ring. Get it insured! This can easily be done by adding it to your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy. Your broker will find the right option for you!

Make sure to get your ring sized! You will be showing this off to EVERYONE and it should not be sliding up and down your finger, or cutting the circulation off and turning your finger not-so-Tiffany-blue.

On that same note…Get a manicure! Nobody wants to see pieces of your garden under your nails in those pictures you’re uploading to Facebook.

Set a date, even if it’s just a specific month or season (ie early Spring 2013). This will save you some headache when your guests-to-be start asking questions and it’ll put the event in their mental planners. Most importantly, however, it’ll give you some direction as you begin to dive into planning.

Create a blog or wedding site. This is a great place to keep everyone and their mother (‘cause you know everyone wants to know) abreast as your wedding details unfold.

Dream! Gather a bunch of wedding magazines, check out Real Bride stories, pick up travel guides to your dream honeymoon location and soak up every bit of inspiration you can! Chances are once you start looking at ideas, your wedding vision will come to life.

Be sure to spend as much non-wedding-planning quality time with your fiancé. Reality probably is, wedding preparation, celebrations and excitement will smother your engaged season, so schedule much needed “just the two of you” moments.

Get organized! Get yourself an app, calendar, binder or even our Wedding Workbooks in the back of our magazine…you are going to need some sort of keep-organized method to keep your wedding related tasks straight. This is also a great place to keep all the inspirational ideas you found.

Review everything you’ve gathered and decide if you’re going to hire a coordinator or are going to do this yourself. Be ready to take on a part-time job! But it’ll probably be the most amazing job you’ll ever have!

Start a savings account. Even the smallest of weddings cost money. Depositing money each week or paycheck is an easy way to keep cash accumulating for the big day, so you don’t have to rely on plastic later on!

Put together your (ideal) guest list. Be sure to ask both sets of parents for their input. Break it into tiers so making cuts later will be easier. This will come in handy when you start shopping around for vendors.

Lastly, enjoy the journey! This is a once in a lifetime event for you and your fiancé! Take time to relax, get a massage, sleep in and take walks together. Don’t let the stress and pressure of planning take away from your time to chill out and have fun!

2. Kim Kardashian & Kris Humpries
They were married August 20th, 2011, in California. Who hasn’t heard about this wedding?! It was an elegant black & white affair for 450 guests, worth millions of dollars, and broadcast in a two-day television event on E!. In the end, Kim filed for divorce 72 days later!

3. Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton

They were married May 14th, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. She wore her mother’s wedding dress and he wore jeans. The wedding was in a rustic barn and the reception was for 550 guests, who dined on venison that the bride shot herself. This was truly a Texan wedding!

4. Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo
They were married July 15th, 2011, in the British Virgin Islands. The invitations were plane tickets with a surprise location. Their wedding was aired a few weeks after their wedding date on TLC.

5. Niecy Nash & Jay Tucker
They were married May 28th, 2011, in Malibu, California. She wore a strapless gown and had a celebrity group of bridesmaids. Her wedding was televised in a two hour event and fans had a chance to see her first dance song performed by Brandy.

They were married March 31st, April 2nd, and May 20th, 2011. If you’re a bit confused, it’s because they had three separate ceremonies! The first two were civil ceremonies in Argentina with the final one being a more lavish, 300 person affair at a private mansion in Canada.

They were married May 15th, 2011, in Napa, California, surrounded by 300 guests. The wedding was planned by celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weis and parts of it was televised on their new reality show “Tia & Tamera”.

8. Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth
They were married March 26th, 2011, in California, in front of 120 guests. Her children stood beside her, as she exchanged vows. After the ceremony, she changed into a short dress to dance the night away.

9. Paul McDonald & Nikki Reed
They were married October 16th, 2011, in Malibu, California. If you’re an American Idol fan, you were a little bit shocked and a little bit excited about the quick engagement and wedding. The bride wore Tacori’s diamond wedding dress and the guest list included 130 people.

10. Kim Zolciak & Kroy Biermann
They were married November 11th, 2011, in Roswell, Georgia. The wedding was a $1 million ceremony and the bride wore a $58,000 pre-owned bridal gown. The formal reception was planned by celebrity designer Colin Cowie.

Vera Wang exhibited her Fall 2012 Collection of bridal gowns at New York’s bridal fashion week and shocked the fashion nobility.

The designer, who knows how to dress every bride in her dream gown, is dressing brides in her own signature color – Black. Yes folks that’s right, seems like the Queen of Bridal couture has had a moment of clarity.

Fashion goers were a bit surprised and taken aback by Wang’s black and beige boldness. Most saw the pieces as more befitting for a fancy funeral or Morticia Adams, but as the collection rolled out on the runway it became clear that Wang’s genius as a designer had not been abandoned. Concerns over the dress’s morbidy dissipated as the audience became enamored with their show-stopping beauty. Vera Wang proved that even if a bride walked down the aisle in black or nude she could still steal the show.

 
This has greater meaning in the world of weddings, since the entire collection is a pièce de résistance from traditional bridal culture.  This opens up a lot of room for new, groundbreaking traditions with non-white wedding gowns. We spoke with a local expert in the Las Vegas wedding film industry. They say this has become huge in the last six to eight months.  They’re choosing to stay clear of popular music, because buying the rights to someone’s favorite song comes with a big price tag.

The music industry has been cracking down on the use of unlicensed songs in wedding videos.

It may have started with the wedding of Tony Romo, the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, to Candice Crawford in May. People magazine said the five-minute video they had made “hit the Internet looking more like a blockbuster movie trailer than nuptial footage” — and soon it went viral on YouTube, complete with Coldplay’s “Fix You” as theme music.

The band’s label reportedly sued the Austin-based filmmaker.

The company that made the Romo wedding film reportedly settled with Coldplay’s record label.

Videographers want to avoid that kind of litigation all together.

What does all this mean for you, if you’re getting married and want the day on video? Mainly, photographers say not to be surprised if you can’t have your favorite music as the background track. If you picked a top-40 hit for your first dance, the photographer may be afraid to post it online. Your photographer is unlikely to be sued — but may worry about it if your wedding video becomes a YouTube hit.
